Last Wednesday, February 26th, 23 students travelled to Glenbrook Pool to represent Team Hazo at the Blue Mountains Zone PSSA Swimming Championships. It was a gorgeous day, and the kids were keen to show bring their A games.
Mr McDonald and Mrs Bourke were SO impressed with their efforts! Hazelbrook PS had 11 athletes achieve a top-10 finish across 25 events. Even more impressively, 20 athletes were able to better their qualifying times from the school carnival, sometimes by a several seconds! This resulted in a whopping 32 improved heat times, many of which were personal best (PB) times! Talk about lifting for the big event!
Stand-out performers included:
Tadhg, who took nearly 5 whole seconds off his 50m breaststroke qualifying time to finish 6th overall.
Nora, who shaved almost 7(!) seconds off her 50m freestyle time to crack the 1-minute mark and finish 5th.
Skyla, who finished 3rd in the 11yo 50m breaststroke (she missed out on second place - and an individual qualification for Sydney West - by just a tenth of a second), then finished 5th in the 50m freestyle, and swam a PB in the backstroke.
Our amazing senior girl's relay team of Isabel, Skyla, Kyah and Sophie, who won by half a pool length (15 seconds).
Kyah, who had 3 PB times, FIVE top-five finishes, including 2x individual third-place finishes.
And last, but ONLY when it comes to the order of this list, was Sophie, who achieved FOUR individual event wins, a second place, a third place, improved on her qualifying time in EVERY SINGLE EVENT for the day, smashed out a new ZONE RECORD, and WON the title of SENIOR GIRL'S AGE CHAMPION!
We were SO proud of ALL of our swimmers, and we wish Sophie, Kyah, Skyla and Isabel the best of luck at the Sydney West Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre in 3 weeks!
